Jervis bay is situated on the NSW South Coast, approximately 3 hours south of Sydney and 3 hours east of Canberra.
Hyams Beach, within Jervis Bay is said to have the whitest sand in the world
On this visit to Jervis Bay territory after our unsuccessful and unenjoyable stay at Cave Beach (see review here) we stayed at the sister site, Bristol point upon the recommendation of one of the excellent park rangers in Booderee National Park.
This site is more geared up for families than travelling backpackers like Cave Beach, it has plenty of nice, clean, modern warm shower and toilet facilities. Much clearer defined and spread out pitches. There is also plenty of free firewood to burn in the provided fire-pits and BBQ’s.
Similar to Cave Beach, the amount of wildlife in and around the campsite is staggering.
It has to be said however the main draw for Bristol Point aside from the wildlife is the spectacular beach just a minute or two’s walk from the campsite, the beach stretches for several kilometres offering serene morning walks or beautiful evening walks with the sunset.
The sea is quite calm in the evenings so pleasant to swim in however there are warnings at various stages and times of year for the presence of blue bottle Jellyfish.
During our visit we spent several hours in the beach walking up and down, you can walk along a rocky outcrop to another of the sister campsites: Green Patch (this is very similar but offers powered sites and is open to caravans and camper vans).
Close by is the larger seaside town of Huskisson, this is a much larger built up town geared towards family and tourist holidaymakers, still nice for a day trip out with plenty of excursions by sea to see whales (season permitting) and island hoping.
